I’m Rhyta

Landscapes, waterscapes, all animals, flowers and historic messuage are my photographic interests. I particularly like waterscapes in all seasons of the year.

Winter is a good time for outdoor photography – even when the weather is unforgiving. Especially if there is a creek or a moving body of water nearby.

Being able to control the flow and movement of the water, visually, is an important aspect of photography.

Learning the physics of the flow and photography, combined, is a difficult study. In my memory, I was more successful using film. Somehow, digital cameras can make one “sloppy”, retaking an image many times with a broad range of settings. With film, that type of work was a waste of time and money, seldom rewarding. One had to get it right the first shot. Here is a good bit of advice!

Being a local historian is helpful as there are many beautiful historic properties to photograph and document, including spring houses,

root cellars, cellar and summer kitchens in addition to wells, barns, sheds, stables, otherwise called “messuage”.

A study of historic messuage throughout sprawling rural districts has been an emphasis for the past five years. Two photographic journals soon to be published.
